Dear Kim Garwood

I cannot remember back in 2006 whether I sent you the photos in high resolution from my Manu Trip in 2006 as you requested? I think I did.
You are planning an Andes book, How is that going?

Hi Niels,

Checking my photographer files I don't find a bunch of photos from you, so maybe you didn't send them. Can you give me a species name of one or two, and I'll check my master files? I keep everything by scientific name of species.

As for our Andean book, I still plan to do one eventually, but right now we're working on our 2nd edition of our southern amazonia book, hope to get it out by this summer. Then our next book will be butterflies of Central America, hopefully to be done next winter/spring of 2009/2010. Then we can concentrate on the Andean book. That will probably be for mid elevations, 1,000 to 2,500 or so meters, Venezuela to Bolivia. That will take a long time, as there is so much that is so poorly known. So, oh damn, I'll have to spend lots and lots of time in Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, etc. Tough job....

I've been to Colombia twice in the last year getting lots of photos and had a wonderful time. I'll be spending lots of time there over the next couple of years, very nice people, huge variety of habitats and inexpensive.
thanks,
k

yes, Colombia is perfectly safe, if you go w/Colombians who know where to go and where not to go. I've used Colombian birding guides, as they know the habitat and the lodges. Check out my trip report from July on our website, I give email addresses and websites for more info. I highly recommend it!
