Here is a photo of a Helicopis metalmark, I suppose Helicopis gnidus but I'd like confirmation if possible.

It was photographed in February near Guajará-Mirim, Rondônia.

I think you're right, it's Helicopis gnidus, due to all the black. But I've only seen a few photos of these, and I'm not familiar with how much variation they show. I've never seen these species, was it in a wet swampy area?

Hi Kim,

Thanks for your opinion. This photo was taken at the Pakaas Palafitas Lodge, from a boardwalk above permanently flooded swamp/varzea forest around an old oxbow. The species seemed to be fairly common there, at least during my February visit.

I think that sort of flooded swamp forest is their habitat. the other photos I've seen were also from a boardwalk over a flooded swamp.
