Two shots of a butterfly that I have labeled as "turquoise" but for the life of me I don't know where I got the name from?? Any ideas?

Bob,

This is an emperor in the genus Doxocopa.

This is Doxocopa agathina vacuna, distinctive w/the orange band of spots on the dfw. I would call it Agathina Emperor. The turquoise is from another Emperor which is also in Argentina, what some call Turquoise Emperor, Doxocopa laurentia, which has bright turquoise blue on the dorsal, very striking. So you were in the right genus, wrong species! I've attached a shot of laurentia/Turquoise from close to Iguazu Falls, at Urugua-i Park.
thanks,
k

Hi all

Did you notice the "green tongue"??? - it is a feature I've only seen in ALL Doxocopa: the forelegs and proboscis are light green.
